We HEART the Spotlight!

Oakland Center for the Arts has a rich tradition of producing great theater with many genres of theatre.  Currently, we have moved our focus to youth theater, life skills, teaching more than acting and music, but more hands-on training on lights, sound, set design, costuming, fundraising, and much more than most any other youth theater company in Ohio. Our goal is to teach more than acting and singing.  The passions of youths extend into the other realms of theatre which they can use in other ways throughout their lives.
But as the community sees our final product, the production/show, the work behind the scenes is much more intensive with responsibilities passed onto each child, youths, and adults to increase attendance, advertising, and awareness to the Oakland Center and Kids First Theater Initiative.
Without the hard work from parents, the kids, and all of our supporters coming to see our performances we wouldn't be able to bring you productions like:
Annie Jr., the Emporer's new clothes, Shrek Jr., Freckleface Strawberry, A Christmas Story, Flat Stanley, Lion King Jr., Godspell, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen Jr., David El' Hatton Scholarship fundraiser, and our Camp Showbiz Summer Camp.

We encourage you to all to come and enjoy a wonderful production some evening. We have been growing our followers once again!
All Tickets can be purchased at the door, with Phone RSVP, or our Online Ticketing Center. * Each ticket will include our $2.00 convenience fee per ticket.

The Acorn Project is a program specifically designed towards High School students.  They have created their own Youth Board, and are led by our Artistic Director.

For each show they will choose from within their ranks an Assistant Director, Set Designer and builders, costumes, lighting, sound design, fundraising, publicity, all overseen by an adult, and are tested at the end of each production to see what they have learned.

There is not another program quite like this in the state of Ohio, where the kids who take on a position receive not only the education but receive a stipend for their work.  Beginning in June 2019 we will give away our first scholarship to a graduating senior that is involved in our program.

Plays are an ancient form of storytelling. It is a creative ritual still very much alive despite the age of Youtube. Come tell your story through a character you portray.

Share your Skills

Community theaters need more than just cast members. Anyone that can sew a costume, paint a backdrop, build a staircase, or edit a sound effect is a desirable addition to the company.
